Poet and Author Gregorio Huerta presents DREAMS AND MEMORIES  

Gregorio Huerta was born in Tlaltenango, Zacatecas, Mexico.  After finishing high school. he moved to Chicago and was drafted into the United States Army.  Upon discharge he joined General Motors as an apprentice tinsmith, subsequently becoming a journeyman.  In 1983, he resumed his education and holds, among other degrees, a Master of Arts in English Literature from Chicago State University.  Some of his poems have previously been published by Chicago State University in Amandla Mgewethu as well as by DePaul University in Revista Apple.  He presently lives in Chicago with his wife and two children.

Among the 60+ poems collected in DREAMS AND MEMORIES by Gregorio Huerta are four that have been previously published alongside the works of other poets -- "Self Deceived," "Supplication," and "Unforgettable," just to name a few.  The remaining poems are entirely new to fans of Gregorio Huerta's lyrical poetry. Drawing on the wealth of his experiences of love, military service, the working life, and the impressions of a naturalized US citizen, Gregorio fashions poetry that is imbued with the sense of a stranger always living in a strange land. In doing so, he creates for the reader many moments that are at once moving, thought-provoking, and enlightening. He holds, among other degrees, a Master of Arts in English Literature from Chicago State University.

He is a regular contributor to Illinois Review and can be heard weekly on the radio in a "man on the street segment" at 10:31 p.m. as a regular guest on the Stephanie Trussell Show, and Sunday nights at 9:00 p.m. until midnight on WLS 890-AM.

Immigration, Border Security, New Americans, and the Media's Responsibility  

Deb Leticia Gordils is the founder of El Sueno Americano Newspaper/Online Publications. Graduated B.A. Communication, B.A Criminal Justice, M.A.ED Dominican University, U.S History, World Studies, Loyola University, Member Phi Alpha Theta. Legal Studies, John Marshall Law School.  She is a political consultant and campaign strategist in Chicago, Illinois. She specializes in Hispanic markets. She was the Political Director for the late Jack Roeser on Hispanic Initiatives. Deb is a Member of Illinois Republican National Hispanic Assembly and has made appearances on Telemundo, Red State Talk Radio, Brietbart News. She is currently a member of Latino Republican National Coalition in Washington, DC.

Deb was hired by the late Harold Washington Administration. Severing under both former Eugene Sawyer's Administration and Mayor Daley's Administration. She helped negotiate contracts with Agencies wishing to operate serving Chicago citizens. Deb traveled often to Springfield Illinois and met with DECA, to ensure that Chicago followed Federal Regulations to secure the $43 million dollars needed to run the Chicago year-round program. She streamlined the RSP from 1,200 pages to less than 330 pages to better serve those seeking City Grants. She oversaw the Coordination Agreement Meetings between all State Department Directors and the City to be sure we were not duplicating City and State services.

GUEST SPEAKER / PROGRAM:  Military Historian Donald Sender

Untold Facts about the Custer Debacle: The Battle of the Little Bighorn (June 25, 1876)  We are delighted to have Donald Sender as IPCC April's guest speaker for this very unique presentation. Don is a scholar, teacher, author and military historian.  He is the Past President of the Salt Creek Civil War Round Table and a current member of the International Press Club of Chicago. He is a retired American history and World geography teacher as well as a retired Chief Warrant Officer in the US Army Reserve. He served 37 consecutive months overseas during the Korean War while a member of the Army Security Agency before being honorably discharged in 1954.  Don holds five Army Achievement Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal and many other awards.

GUEST SPEAKER / PROGRAM:  Author Mark Farina presents his book, Casey and The Flying Fortress

Mark Farina is a Native Chicagoan who has been sports announcing and writing, a photographer and most recently a published Author, in a career spanning over 40 Years, beginning in High School for his Alma Mater, the Steinmetz Silver Steaks as Public Address Announcer for Football and Basketball and a Sports Stringer for City News Bureau. He has continued announcing Chicago Public League Football, Basketball and Baseball ever since and various other local High School, College, and Professional teams.  

After High School, he pursued his career at Illinois State University as a Radio DJ and Play-by-Play Announcer of ISU Redbirds Football, Baseball, and Basketball on their student radio station WILN (now WZND-FM.) He was also Sports Director for Columbia College Chicago's Student Station, WCRX-FM, and Host and Executive Producer for the Sports Journal radio program at Illinois State, Columbia College and later at WTAQ-AM in the early 80's.

Mark was a Prep Sports Writer for the Chicago Sun-Times in the late 80's and a Columnist for the monthly national publication Red, White & Green Sports Magazine.  He also spent 18 years in City Government as a Public Relations Representative for the Chicago Departments of Environment and Streets and Sanitation. He has been an active member of Kiwanis International for over 25 Years, holding various leadership roles on the local and District-wide levels. He is currently a member of the LaGrange Kiwanis Club.

His first book, "Casey and The Flying Fortress" was published in October-2016 by AuthorHouse. Mark is a native of the Galewood neighborhood on Chicago's Northwest side and has been a resident of Brookfield since 2012.
