PRESS VETERANS TO DISCUSS "TODAY’S QUALITY OF JOURNALISM”
Panelists: Bob Manewith and Robert Blackwood
Moderator: Professor Harry Lepinske
Two press veterans and past presidents of the International Press Club of Chicago discuss “Today’s Quality of Journalism” during a panel discussion scheduled during an IPCC luncheon.
Both panelists, Bob Manewith, a 37-year veteran of WGN radio and TV news, and Robert Blackwood, professor emeritus from Wright College and a prolific writer, will invite audience participation.
Manewith was the overnight news writer/producer at WGN radio and TV, where he also served as manager of news and editorial director for both stations. He also worked as a congressional press secretary and worked in public relations. He has taught news writing labs at Northwestern University and copy-editing, editorial writing and news writing at Columbia College. He has served as president of the Chicago Headline Club, the Journalists Association, the International Press Club of Chicago, and the Illinois News Broadcasters Association.
Blackwood received his doctorate degree in English from Loyola University in l972; is a film reviewer for Abe Peck’s “Chicago Seed”; still writes film reviews for the monthly “Columbia River Reader”; is webmaster for the Cook County College Teachers Union, Local 1600; and is author if two books on films. He also appears on Chicago Cable Access Television.
Lepinske is a former newspaper editor, was a pioneer in cable television production, an on-air personality for news and features at the former Radio Station WTAQ, taught English and American literature, founded the Ernest Hemingway Museum and Library in Azerbaijan; still writes for the foreign news media and teaches university classes.

PROGRAM: A rare opportunity to Meet and Greet the New Consul General while listening to his presentation on Today's Indonesia.
HIGHLIGHTS AND SPEAKER BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Benny Bahanadewa, the Consul General Republic of Indonesia in Chicago since January 2010. Prior to his recent position, Bahanadewa was the Secretary to the Directorate General for American and European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia in Jakarta from 2006 – 2009. Bahanadewa received his Bachelor of Economics from the Islamic University of Indonesia in Yogyakarta in 1984. He also received Master of Business Management from Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium in 1992 and Master of Science in European Studies from the University of Indonesia in 2008.
As a career diplomat, he was assigned to the Indonesian Mission in Brussels; the Indonesian Embassy in Washington, D.C.; and to the Indonesian Embassy in Paris. He had also been appointed multiple times as a Member and Head of the Indonesian Delegation to the United Nations General Assembly Meeting. In addition, he has also participated in numerous National and International Conferences, Workshops, and Training opportunities.
As always, there will be ample time allotted for a question and answer period following lunch and the main presentation.

PROGRAM: Turkish musicians representing the Turkish American Cultural Alliance, Turkish Folk Music Ensemble, and the University of Chicago’s Middle Eastern Music Ensemble, will entertain during the International Press Club’s “Turkish Delight” dinner.
Four entertainers, IlkerR. Capoglu, Kerem Can Alp, Duru Turkoglu, and Turkay Erel will use traditional folk instruments.

Romanian Trade Official To Discuss US-Romanian Relations: A timely presentation about US-Romanian relations will be presented by Gabriel Dudu, consul for economic affairs, Consulate General of Romania, at the monthly luncheon-discussion session of the International Press Club of Chicago. Mr. Duta was assigned to the Chicago office in 2009. He was educated in Romania and served in diplomatic posts in China and Los Angeles. This event is open to the public and guests are encouraged.

Former “Tribune”-UPI Reporter To Discuss Her Book At International Press Club Luncheon
A former reporter for the “Chicago Tribune” and United Press International, Sel Erder Yackley, will present timely highlights of her book, “Never Regret the Pain: Loving and Losing a Bipolar Spouse” during a monthly luncheon discussion session of the International Press Club of Chicago. “Trying to lift the stigma of mental illness has become the driving force in my life since the publication of this book”, she commented. This event is open to the public and guests are encouraged.
